Wait — did you read that right? Yes, a same day crown is possible with CAD/CAM technology and an in-house milling machine. We do it with the help of CEREC, or chair side economical restoration of esthetic ceramics. Learn more about how same day crowns work below, then call us soon to schedule an appointment before the year ends!
When You Need a Dental Crown
People who need a dental crown should not delay treatment. The crown is used for serious decay or damage. When it follows a root canal, a crown may be the last option before extraction of the tooth is necessary.
Your dentist may recommend a dental crown for a number of issues, including…
- Holding together a broken tooth
- Strengthening a weak or worn tooth
- Repairing malfunctioning dental work
- Restoring a big cavity when there is not enough room for a filling
- Making cosmetic improvements to front teeth
The dental crown is a thin, tooth-shaped covering that is cemented over the decayed or damaged tooth. After application, a high-quality ceramic dental crown looks, fits, and feels just like the rest of your teeth.
How CEREC Works
CEREC manufactures a dental crown from a single piece of dental porcelain. In a little less than two hours, your dentist can plan for, prepare, and place your dental crown.
Dr. Wagner begins by examining the extent of the decay and putting your treatment plan in place. He will reshape your tooth enamel and take impressions of your teeth. This information is fed into the CEREC software, and Dr. Wagner uses the technology to sketch the plan for your new restoration.
After the crown has been created in our in-house milling machine, your dentist checks to make sure it fits just like it should. After any necessary adjustments are made, that’s it — and the new crown is bonded securely in place!
Multiple Benefits of CEREC
There are a number of advantages associated with CEREC. Some of the most notable include…
- Same day dentistry eliminates the need for a temporary restoration.
- Digital imagery used in CEREC is more comfortable than traditional impressions.
- Save vacation and/or sick days with same day dentistry.
- Same day crowns last as long as those prepared the traditional way.
- This time of year, one day crowns allow you to use up your dental insurance benefits!
